Overview

The Design Team Manager leads the planning, execution, and delivery of design services for complex energy and infrastructure projects for hospital and college campuses, managing a team of mechanical and electrical engineers and designers. This role is responsible for ensuring the development of high-quality, multidisciplinary designs—including power distribution, HVAC, hydronic, thermal plant, renewable energy, storage, and controls systems—that are fully coordinated, code-compliant, and constructible. The Design Team Manager ensures alignment with existing facilities, operational constraints, and client objectives, particularly in complex environments such as healthcare campuses.

This role provides direct leadership to design staff, typically including two Professional Engineers and three designers or junior engineers, and is accountable for team performance, workload management, technical quality, and staff development. Responsibilities include leading design coordination efforts, overseeing deliverables, supporting permitting and procurement processes, resolving technical and constructability challenges, and ensuring consistent application of ENFRA standards and best practices.

The Design Team Manager is also responsible for project-level design accountability, including managing scope, schedule, and budget for design services within assigned projects or programs. This includes participating in client interactions, supporting project planning and reporting, and ensuring that all design outcomes support performance, reliability, energy efficiency, and long-term operational objectives, including measurement and verification requirements. The role requires balancing technical leadership with operational execution to deliver integrated, high-performing systems consistent with ENFRA’s Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) model.
