The BIM/VDC Technician I is responsible for developing a basic understanding of the tools, workflows, and standards involved in producing accurate and cost-effective shop drawings. This entry-level role serves as an introduction to BIM/VDC processes and emphasizes a strong commitment to learning, growth, and skill development within the construction technology environment.
· Collaborate with team members to develop the ability to interpret specifications and contract documents accurately.
· Builds foundational knowledge of the mechanical and plumbing systems represented in our drawings.
· Learns the basics of how to read and interpret code.
· Learns the fundamentals of shop drawing creation, file management, and technical communication.
· Strives for proficiency in Revit, Autodesk Fabrication, Navisworks Manage, Bluebeam and other BIM software’s.
· Learn to communicate effectively with internal team members.
· Begins to understand BIMs financial impacts on projects.
· Spend some time in the field to learn what elements lead to successful projects.
· Learn the BOM, fabrication drawing, and Trimble layout basics.
· Adheres to the departmental code of ethics while exemplifying a level of professionalism that appropriately represents the Company.
· Assists in the production of models and shop drawings when directed.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
· High School diploma or GED.
· Aptitude for technical means and methods.
· Analytical and structural mindset.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
· Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
· Versed in the industry and the Company’s competitors.
· Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications
· Basic software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, Bluebeam) knowledge.
· Basic trade (mechanical and/or plumbing) knowledge.
Travel Requirements
· 5% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Climbing stairs.
· Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
· Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
· Quiet environment.
· Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
